Graduate Student Researcher (GSR) Request form

Please complete the form below if you are requesting to hire a Graduate Student Researcher (GSR). This form must be completed by a UC Merced faculty member. If completed by a non-UC Merced faculty member, processing may be delayed or cancelled. If not all information is known at the time of submission, please still complete the required fields with as much information as possible and utilize the comments field to include your notes. A SSHA Graduate Services Coordinator will follow up with you.

Reference the following:

  • GSR Salary - Most updated GSR salary point from UCOP. Salary points are based on the graduate student's GSR semester experience. 
  • GSR Calculator - Faculty can utilize the excel sheet to see the esitmated cost of GSR appointment based on the dates of employment entered. Tabs with examples and instructions are also included. 

Below is the workflow after SSHA Graduate Services receives your GSR request submission: 

Fall and Spring semester Graduate Student Researcher appointments must be at 0.25 FTE (10 hrs/wk) or 0.50 FTE (20 hrs/wk).

 

Submission Deadline for Summer 2025:  Monday, March 24, 2025. 

Dates of  Employment for Summer 2025: May 17, 2025 to August 15, 2025.  

Submission Deadline for Fall 2025:  Friday, May 16, 2025.

Dates of  Employment for Fall 2025: August 16, 2025 to December 31, 2025. 

*The processing of appointments timeline is six weeks prior to the payroll deadline. Late submissions will cause a delay in pay.*

If the salary point for this graduate student is unknown, you can select salary point 1. Your SSHA Grad Coordinator will follow up with the estimate GSR calculator and provide you with the salary point the student is recommended for based on their GSR semester experience.
Name of the Principal Investigator (PI).
Name of funding source or CoA (Chart of Accounts).
Provide an alternative source of funding if you are unsure if funding or COA is available for SSHA Graduate Services to proceed with the appointment. SSHA Grad Services cannot move forward with processing the GSR appointment if funding or COA is not available.
